The Institute for Chaplaincy & Clinical Pastoral Education at Care and Counseling Center of Georgia

What is CPE?

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is a method of learning and strengthening pastoral competence while serving as a chaplain to persons in crisis in a variety of settings. We offer placements such as hospitals (urban and rural), hospices, nursing homes, social service agencies, congregations and prisons.

CPE is the hands-on practice of ministry in the context of modern diversity. Through the engagement with persons in crisis, peers and supervisors, as well as through reflection, writing, discussion and debate, students learn to articulate their pastoral identities and hone their pastoral skills. Furthermore, CPE invites the minister into deeper self-awareness, broader parameters for his/her assumptions and a wider understanding of the Divine at work in the world.

Our program offers Level I and II (summer, full-time or extended and residency) as well as supervisory training.
